Fort Point's Fall Openings Now Fill a Whole Day on the Channel

Between September 8 and early October, seven new places opened around the Fort Point Channel. They don't all compete for the same 7 p.m. table. Brookline Lunch on L Street serves pancakes in the morning. Bloom pours matcha by day on Seaport Boulevard. The Moseley does weekday lunch above South Station. Celine opens at 4 p.m. on A Street. Overproof keeps its doors open until 1 a.m. on Damrell Street, and Hawksmoor serves a weekly Sunday roast.

If you live in Fort Point, the Seaport, South Boston or the blocks around South Station, you can now string together a full day near the Channel, from breakfast to a 1 a.m. last call, at places that weren't open this summer. Here is that day in order, with the hours as each place has published them or as local press reported them.

Morning Starts on L Street

The day begins on the South Boston side. Brookline Lunch, the Cambridge brunch spot that's been around for nearly 40 years, opened its second location at 108 L St. in late September. Boston Magazine's October roundup called it a lucky break for Southie and singled out the baklava pancakes. Boston.com also listed banana-Biscoff pancakes, a breakfast burrito, labna toast and an iced latte made with cherry syrup. The location posts updates on its Instagram account, which is the place to check hours before a weekend visit.

Seaport Boulevard Covers the Daytime Hours

Bloom opened at 60 Seaport Blvd. on October 6 and runs as two businesses in one room. During launch week, Boston.com reported tea and matcha service from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., then cocktails from 5 to 11 p.m. It also said Mondays would be closed for the first two weeks, with seven-day service to follow. Caught in Southie described a plan for daily 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. service, so confirm the current schedule before you go.

The daytime menu features matcha flights plus strawberry and banana-cream matcha lattes. Christian Doan founded the bar, and according to Boston Magazine, the beverage directors are Chompon "Boong" Boonnak, co-owner of Mahaniyom, and Markus Yao. Iruma Shibuya runs operations. Japanese sandos and small bites round out the menu.

Myka Greek opened farther down the boulevard at The Current, 100 Seaport Blvd., on September 25. It serves frozen yogurt, and Boston.com highlighted the baklava-pistachio and dulce de leche flavors, a vegan guava sorbet and a pistachio-phyllo topping the shop calls mykataifi.

Weekday Lunch Moves Above South Station

For a weekday lunch, cross the Channel to the ninth floor of South Station Tower. The Moseley opened there on October 5. It covers more than 10,000 square feet, and Boston-based Perkins&Will designed the room with curved white oak ceilings and bronze details meant to recall old train cars. The restaurant takes its name from Alex Moseley, who ran a leather and hide business on nearby South Street in the late 1800s and helped shape the Leather District.

The Moseley is open to the public. The tower's other two concepts from Episcope Hospitality, the Proper Fare market and a separate bar and lounge, serve only office tenants and building residents. Episcope's CEO, David Morton, explained the approach to Boston.com:

"A really disciplined, passionate desire to source incredible product. Hopefully a really outstanding experience from food, beverage, and service at a great price."

At lunch you can order a split-top lobster roll, a dry-aged sirloin burger or a crab cake with habanero tartar sauce. Morton singled out the miso black cod with yuzu cream. The posted hours run Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Dinner Begins at 4 p.m. on A Street

The evening shift starts back in Fort Point. Celine opened at 324 A St. at the end of September. It's a cozy, Montreal-inspired room from the group behind SRV, Gufo, Salty Pig and Baleia. Boston.com's opening report lists the poutine as fries cooked in beef tallow, topped with curds and gravy made from chicken and duck drippings. The menu also has steak frites, duck confit cassoulet and a foie gras "breakfast for dinner" sandwich.

Dinner starts at 4 p.m. every night and runs until 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and until 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The bar stays open until 11 p.m. early in the week and until midnight on weekends. With a 4 p.m. start, you can have an early dinner and still make Bloom's cocktail service on Seaport Boulevard afterward.

The Rum Bar Holds the Late Shift

Overproof is open at 85 Damrell St. in South Boston, and OpenTable lists its hours as Thursday through Sunday, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. That 1 a.m. close is the latest of any opening on this list. Two industry veterans run it. Jen LaForge most recently managed Ama at the Atlas, and Will Isaza managed Foxglove Terrace. According to Boston Magazine, the bar works in partnership with Common Craft's South Boston location and sits in the space first planned as Common Craft's Stillroom cocktail bar. Chef Tony Messina, Common Craft's executive chef and partner, handles the bar food.

Isaza previewed the Spanglish Remix as an opening-menu drink. It combines Ron Zacapa 23, mango milk, sesame, lime and amontillado sherry. Online reservations are available through OpenTable, and an October 11 diner review there recommends pairing that cocktail with the grilled cheese.

Sunday Belongs to Hawksmoor

The London-based steakhouse opened its third U.S. location at 15 Necco St. on September 8. Boston Magazine's first look points to the weekly Sunday roast, a shared meal of roast beef with all the trimmings. The review also mentions the local seafood and a few nods to New England, including a Fluffernutter sundae and an espresso-and-pistachio martini inspired by the North End. The restaurant also has a waterfront patio, and Boston Magazine praised the beer-battered fish butty. Serving times for the roast are on Hawksmoor's Sunday roast page.

One Departure on West Broadway

Boston Restaurant Talk reported that Lulu Green's South Boston location at 246 W Broadway closed after service on October 17. The Kendall Square location stays open.

What the Calendar Adds Through Early January

As November begins, the neighborhood calendar adds dated events to these new daily routines.

  1. Thursday, October 29, 6 p.m. Harpoon's Thirsty Thursday Thrivia continues at the brewery. Seating in the Beer Hall is first-come, first-served with no regular reservations. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
  2. Friday, November 6. Snowport returns for its sixth season with a winter market of more than 130 artisans and vendors, an outdoor ice rink, live music and pet-friendly areas, according to the Seaport Hotel's announcement.
  3. Sunday, November 8, 3 to 4 p.m. The Fort Point Arts Community's Harbor Harmonies series presents Trio Coro in "Romantic Twilights," a free concert at 15 Channel Center St.
  4. Through January 3. Fort Point Open Studios ended October 18, but the Open Studios Group Show stays on view at Gallery at Atlantic Wharf, open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Details are on the FPAC calendar.

If you want to see the show at Atlantic Wharf and have lunch at The Moseley, go on a weekday, since that's when the Moseley serves lunch. On Sunday, November 8, you can pair the Channel Center concert with Hawksmoor's roast on Necco Street.
